Brazilian
Jiu-Jitsu(BJJ),
was popularized in
the United States in the 1990’s by
Royce Gracie with his
performances in the Ultimate
Fighting Championship,
Royce was a much smaller fighter
that was able to win every fight
that he fought in the UFC against
many larger opponents.
BJJ is arguably the most effective
and realistic fighting system.
BJJ is a lot like wrestling being
that most of the techniques are
on the ground but the main
difference being that you are not trying
to pin your opponent but end the
fight with a submission hold
such as a chokes or one of the
many other submission techniques.
The fact is that most real fights
end on the ground, BJJ offers
the ability to defeat a larger
opponents with out having to
strike them, but still end the
fight through the application of
various submission (chokes, arm
and leg locks)
and throwing techniques.
More INFO ON BJJ
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is primarily a
ground-fighting art. Most techniques involve both fighters on the
mat. There is a heavy emphasis on positional strategy, which is
about which fighter is on top, and where each person's legs are.
Positions are stable situations, from which a large variety of
techniques are available to both fighters.
